I've been trying to figure out the best way to get you all caught up on everything we have done to the house. I guess the best thing to do would be to break it down by project and get the "unfinished" stuff out of the way before discussing the new stuff we did.
When we moved to Milwaukee 18 months ago we knew NOBODY. L went to work and made friends with a guy by the name of Tony. Tony and his wife Stephania are Italian. Which means nobody is a stranger. We had been in town only a few short weeks before we had not only met both of his parents, his sister and brother, but her parents and grandfather. They have adopted us!
After removing the ceiling fan from my kitchen and putting up the new one I figured I was safe to try and update the fixture in the office. There was a ceiling fan in that room with no light so I figured I might have a pretty good chance of getting a new fixture installed with a bit more ease that the last one. I removed the ceiling fan and was in luck as there were only two wires...one white, one black. I got it all installed and put in a light bulb and threw the power switch. LIGHT!
For once the lack of posts isn't due to lack of motivation. My hosting provider updated some software on their server and it caused a bit of a glitch in my website. I was unable to create any new posts. I think it has been finally worked out but should any of you folks run across a problem, please let me know so that I can follow up with the server hosts.
L had a poker game to attend this evening and Whohead decided she wanted to play with sidewalk chalk for the last hour or so before she went to bed so I managed to use that time outside to finish cleaning the last five pieces of trim we stripped today. I wish I could say that I was completely finished with stripping trim now...but I still have two door casings and another window to pull out and refinish. All that however will wait until the windows in the front of the house are done. I am listing the current project with office trim as complete - Hey...it's all about the little accomplishments at this point!
I spent part of friday and part of yesterday trying to locate a heat shield to use while stripping and reglazing my windows. I learned about them from Jocelyn over at Chicago 2-flat and have learned that anyone even remotely associated with a big box store will look at you like you are crazy if you ask about them.
The house is ultimately my project. L works, on a good week, between 50 - 60 hours. If he's traveling, which he does frequently, it's probably closer to 70. This being said, the thought of coming home and tag-teaming a two-year-old and then spending the night renovating a house is not hight on his priority list. At least it wasn't until we got the first estimate on what the basement will cost to "hire out" the work.
Well I would love to say that my living room window has new glass and is just waiting to have the final coat of primer added so that it can be rehung tomorrow...but I can't!

The PLAN for the weekend was for me to meet with the contractor who was giving me an estimate on the basement on Saturday and then take a golf lesson. Once that was over I was supposed to go look for replacement glass for the broken pane of glass in the window I was reglazing. What is it they say about "best laid plans"?
The stripping of the window parts that remains attached to the house in the office are finally getting close to being finished (at least on the first window). Today I used the heatgun in a couple of hard to reach areas that would have just gummed-up if I had used the gel.

I rarely get any home renovation stuff done on the weekend. L travels frequently for work so the weekends are coveted family time. Monday's are good indicators of how the rest of the week will go and though I didn't get a lot done today and I know I have a very busy week ahead, I figure something is better than nothing.
I am slowly getting back to work. Soy-gel is great...but it is messy, so I am still working on cleaning up the trim-work.

Yesterday I cleaned out the office of all the "clutter" that seemed to accumulate while I was working and get a designated work space set up in the garage. I almost set it up in the basement instead but this way Whohead can play outside while I'm working. It just means that L has to park his car in the driveway.
